   Specialty Classes

 

On occasion we able to offer a specialized yoga class focused on particular needs (such as stress reduction, lower back issues, or strength-building) or particular audiences (teens, seniors, etc.). On occasion we also offer Ananda Yoga Fundamentals which is a perfect introduction to our style of yoga postures, as well as Restorative Yoga, a special form of no-effort postures that often bring profound physical healing.

 

A Course in Pranayama
4 nights 7:30-9pm over 4 weeks $100; for the latest dates see Classes.
Pranayama is the key to a deeper experience of yoga postures and meditation. By withdrawing energy from the body and senses and redirecting this energy inward and upward you can magnetize the spine uplifting and expanding our consciousness. This class will include:

  • Breathing techniques that cool the nervous system inducing calmness and tranquility.

  • Integrating asana, pranayama, and meditation.

  • Techniques that clarify the mind.

  • How to use the chakra energies to enhance your sadhana.

Ananda Yoga Fundamentals

Have you thought about taking an Ananda Yoga class,  but are afraid you won’t fit in because you are a beginner?  Are you new to Ananda Yoga and not sure about all the jargon?  Curious about the philosophy and style of Ananda Yoga?

Then this workshop is for you!  This workshop will give you a foundation in Ananda Yoga enabling you to integrate more readily into our on-going yoga classes and to develop an at-home yoga practice of your own.

In this class we’ll explore:

  • Basic yoga postures including the keys to safety & alignment, plus adapting each asana to fit the needs and abilities of the individual

  • Fundamentals of the breath

  • Maintaining constant relaxation even in the midst of effort

  • Why yoga postures are more than just mere physical exercise and have the power can affect us on mental, emotional, and spiritual levels

  • How does the practice of yoga postures relate to the deeper principles of ancient yoga philosophy
     

 

Yoga for Relaxation

The science of yoga might even be defined as a process of progressive relaxation: first, from outer attachments; then from attachment to body, to thoughts, to personality, to ego—until one finds himself at last in the stream of infinite life.

Relaxation is the key for not only a deep experience of yoga postures, but also for having a joyful and dynamic life.  In this class we will focus on using yoga postures, pranayam & meditation to dissolving tension & stressors in the body and experience a state of peace and tranquility.  I this class we will explore:

  • What is tension & stress and what is it’s effect’s on the body?

  • Breathing techniques that cool the nervous system inducing calmness and tranquility.

  • Visualizations to dissolve mental agitation and restlessness

  • One class devoted solely to restorative yoga for relaxation and renewal

 

Therapeutic Yoga

5:45-7pm, $40

Are you feeling tired by the end of the day? Do you notice an increase in tension in your shoulders, back, or neck? Do you have trouble with your digestion, or sometimes feel depressed? This class will show you simple techniques to begin improving your health:

  • How your nervous system dramatically affects your health

  • Techniques to calm and re-energize yourself and to improve digestion and sleep.

  • About correct posture and the reasons for lower back pain and stiff shoulders along with techniques for relief

  • The relationship between a restless mind and stresses in the body

  • Yoga Routines that are safe and gentle
